Hello! I’m Dr. Julia Reeve, a gynaecologist, psychotherapist, sexologist and also author of the book Living With(out) Sex.

I grew up bilingual, with a German mother and a British father, originally from England. At the age of 16, I moved to Germany, where I later studied human medicine at Cologne University and became a doctor. I went on to specialize in gynaecology and obstetrics.

Since 1999, I’ve been living in the Netherlands while continuing to work in Germany, crossing the border daily. I opened my own gynaecological practice back in 1994 — over 25 years ago — and I quickly realized something important: my patients needed more than the conventional medical training I had received.

To provide them with the best possible support, I pursued further education first in sexology and then in psychotherapy, deepening my expertise. For some reason, women sufferers of vaginismus kept reaching out to me. In the beginning I struggled to help them and slowly over the years, with trial and error and a lot of feedback from my patients, I developed my own method of treatment. Which turned out to be so fast and effective, that women and their partners would travel miles to see me, often crossing borders themselves, coming from foreign countries far away.

In the summer of 2024, I retired from my in-person medical practice. Seeing as I never touch my patients and in anticipation of my retirement, I spent the last years next to working in my practice, developing and testing an online program for women sufferers. And so I continue now to support women online — through coaching, education, and resources. And this works well, but there is an essential part missing: YOU!

My background:
Studying humane medicine at the University of Cologne and getting promoted to Doctor of Medicine.

Over the years, I expanded my expertise through postgraduate studies in the following areas:

âś” Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

âś” Psychosomatics

âś” Family Therapy

âś” Sexology

✔ Traditional Chinese Medicine — earning a second academic title with a Master’s degree from the Technical University of Munich.

These additional qualifications have allowed me to take a truly holistic and multidisciplinary approach to supporting women with vaginismus and related concerns.

So how did I develop my specific approach to vaginismus?

It evolved over time — thanks to my studies, my patients, and ongoing refinement. The real turning point came when I underwent flight phobia training myself. I realised that a similar principle — gradual desensitization — could be highly effective for helping women with vaginismus.

That insight became the foundation of the method I now teach, alongside trauma awareness and all things concerning neuroplasticity. The basic understanding of reflexes and the subconscious. Using mind tricks to overcome phobia and to unravel the complicated vaginismus fear response cycle, that inhibits those affected, in many ways.

An essential part of my approach also includes the involvement of an accountability partner, when available. And because I never physically touch patients, online support works exceptionally.

Online Programs work, but women still need the support of professionals like YOU to essentially get feedback as to whether they are actually dilating properly and to get help with triggers and traumatic negative thoughts. And this is where YOU and the Vaginismus Masters Program come in.

Working with vaginismus sufferers means you have a lot of explaining to do - and the basics are always the same. Individual trauma, history, present day situations vary and these need a personal touch, just as the dilating instructions need the professional but personal touch. I'd like to share with you my method of treating vaginismus and give you and your patients the resources to reach your goals faster and with more efficiency.

If you like, you can leave all the explaining to The Vaginismus Zone: A Membership Area for your clients where they can learn all the basics of this therapy method that YOU will be applying. But that is optional.

I created Vaginismus Masters — to pass this method on to professionals like YOU. So more women can get the care they need.
